Welcome to the February Carnival of Natural Parenting: Love and partners!

This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Carnival of Natural Parenting hosted by Hobo Mama and Code Name: Mama. My husband has been a tremendous support, participant, leader and provider for our family and our decision toward raising our son. He is providing the spiritual leadership and guidance any young man needs to develop into a great and mighty man.

From the moment we found out we were expecting, my husband kicked it into high gear daddy mode. I can’t say I was surprised too much because he did the same thing a few years back when we decided to get married. He threw himself into all the planning and preparations, wanting to be involved with each moment and decision. So it was that more important that he be an ever present participate in how we brought our son into the world and what we will do as a family to support his development.

During our pregnancy he took the initiative every day to learn about safe child birth and health pregnancy. He was always concerned about how our son was developing and what my needs were along the way. He wanted the best birth plan for me and our child so when I brought to him the desire to have a natural childbirth experience he was totally on board. I had to do a little work to convince him that delivering in a birthing center was a better choice, but once he met with the mid-wife and saw the center he was sold. From there he also attended each childbirth class was had and learned the different ways that he could be a support to me before, during and after labor. He was the deciding factor into our choice to hire a doula for our birth. He understood that her presence during the labor not only helped me, but also him into learning how to be responsive to my needs.

Since our son was born he has been an avid cloth diapering daddy and really enjoys his baby wearing moments.I am so grateful to be able to raise a family with such an awesome leader and look forward to what our parenting journey brings us in the future.

  3. That’s so wonderful that your husband took on such an active role to learn and research while you were pregnant. My husband is more of an experiential learner, preferring to learn things first hand, rather than through books. I had to extend my hand in trust that he would pull through as a wonderful father because I knew him to be a wonderful man. In the end it doesn’t really matter how they decided to be supportive, though, just that they are supportive.

I think that one of the very best parts of having a baby is seeing your husband become a father. It’s truly, truly awesome! :)

  10. I’m still awestruck by the fact that he helped plan your wedding. I had yet to witness that phenomenon. But, seriously, he sounds like an amazing guy! I remember we had the same sorts of talks surrounding hospital vs. birth center vs. home birth, but we also ended up on the same page after discussing and touring.

Oh yeah, I was shocked at first also, but he was engaged throughout the entire planning process.

Your husband’s focused preparations to celebrate your union and the birth of your son are so beautiful and definitely outside of the box for many partners. You are so fortunate to have someone who wants to be involved in every aspect of your life as a family. It is clear that you will always have a loving and dedicated partner by your side.

He helped plan your wedding?! That’s awesome. Sounds like you’ve got a really good man.
I remember talking homebirth over with my husband. The look on his face when the words came out of my mouth, LOL
Now he’s my number one support.
