Baking Soda, alias sodium bicarbonate, is a naturally occurring substance that is found in all living things, where it helps regulate their pH balance. ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda is made from soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate. To make ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda, the soda ash is mined in the form of an ore called trona. The soda ash is then dissolved into a solution through which carbon dioxide is bubbled and sodium bicarbonate precipitates out, forming “Pure, Safe and Natural” 

Straight baking soda by itself while good might be a bit too strong for under your arms. You need just a tiny bit.  Melinda with One Green Generation has dedicated various hours of research, and came upon a solution to how strong the baking powder can be:  mixing baking soda with cornstarch.  The cornstarch actually works as a light antiperspirant, and the baking soda deodorizes.

Instructions.

In a reusable and resealable container, mix 1 part baking soda with 6 parts cornstarch.

Close the container and shake vigorously for about a minute, to thoroughly mix the two powders.

Then dab a small amount to the skin of your armpits with a soft cotton cloth, cotton ball, or cosmetic applicator. Apply as if you were lightly applying baby powder or cosmetic powder.

Pretty simple, yet very effective.

I chose this lotion recipe because from the ingredients it looked to be a nice balance of creams and oils. I tend to have very dry skin, especially in the winter so finding a mixture that contains more moisturising ingredients was important.

Again, the process of making the lotion was a whole lot easier then I imagined. The best part being that most of the ingredients were items I already had at home. And also, you can play with the recipe and change how much of each ingredient you use each time you make it until you find just the right balance.

To make your own lotion all you need is:

• Coconut Oil
• Distilled Water
• Beeswax
• Cocoa Butter (optional)
• Vitamin E
• Essence Oil (optional)

For today’s project I am sharing with you my experience making my very own lip balm. After searching through and studying different recipes, the one I found that really sparked my interest was the Beeswax Lip Balm found on eHow.com.

To make this fabulously moist lip balm you need the following ingredients:

• Beeswax
• Tiny Tins With Lids
• Coconut Oil
• Honey
• Essential Oils
• Lanolin
• Vitamin E Capsule
• Microwave-safe Containers
• Microwaves Oven
• Stirrers

The steps are pretty easy and only took me about 5 minutes to put it all together.

1. Melt 1 tsp. shredded beeswax, 2 tsp. coconut oil, 1/2 tsp. lanolin and one vitamin E capsule in the microwave.
2. Step 2Add 2 drops of essential oil such as peppermint, orange or lemon.
3. Step 3Add 1 tsp. honey.
4. Step 4Stir the mixture until cool.
5. Step 5Pour into a container and let set until completely

I found this simple recipe online at Instructables.com. Watch as I put together my first bar. Since making this video I have used quite a few times and it works well. I do not feel any less protect then I did with my favorite brand. The texture and consistency is certainly different from regular stick deodorant so there will be a learning curve at first on how to apply it. However since you’ve got that down you should be set.
